The Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation provides instruction in both theoretical and practical aspects of physical education, preparing students for careers as educators and sports coaches. Those pursuing a physical education major will engage with curriculum covering teaching methodologies for students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. All candidates must complete Teacher Education admission requirements, Professional Education coursework, and the Professional Semester. Transfer students who have taken an Introduction to Education course elsewhere might qualify to have it recognized as equivalent to Pittsburg State's EDUC 261 Explorations in Education. To ensure full credit transfer and satisfy Teacher Education admission criteria, these students must coordinate with the Office of Teacher Education.
