The Theatre Program at Seaver College offers intensive performing arts training within a liberal arts environment. Students benefit from top-tier stage productions and regular master classes led by visiting professionals, gaining direct exposure to the world of theatre careers.
Theatre arts majors develop both creative and analytical skills for professions in acting, directing, film, musical theatre, and production design through practical, career-focused instruction. They contribute to Seaver College's vibrant arts culture by performing in University shows using cutting-edge performance spaces.
Our foundational curriculum operates on the principle that theatre students must first become well-versed in the art form itself before specializing. Required courses in design, dramaturgy, technical theatre, history, and arts activism provide essential knowledge that serves students whether they pursue theatre careers or transition to related entertainment fields like film and television. Pepperdine's robust theatre foundation cultivates perseverance, shaping graduates into adaptable, multifaceted theatre professionals.
Musical theatre students engage with both theatre and music departments, continuously developing at least two key competencies (acting, singing, or dancing) each semester. They receive specialized vocal training from classically-trained instructors, establishing healthy singing techniques for sustainable careers. Beyond auditioning for the annual musical, students may try out for straight plays and opera productions. While four semesters of private voice lessons are mandatory, students may continue vocal training throughout all four years.
