The Master of Science program emphasizes research-focused studies. Students pursuing this degree receive comprehensive training in scientific methodologies and analytical techniques relevant to their discipline. Those specializing in Rural Sociology must gain proficiency in rural sociological concepts, research methodologies, statistical analysis, and demonstrate broad knowledge of key theoretical and practical aspects within sociological subfields (including but not limited to community and global development, population studies, agricultural and food systems, or environmental and natural resource management).
Prerequisites for the master's program include 3 credits in rural sociology or sociology, and additional credits in either field. If the entering student does not have these prerequisites, they must be made up at the University during the early part of the master's program.
Students with a 3.00 junior/senior average (on a 4.00 scale) and with appropriate course backgrounds will be considered for admission. The best-qualified applicants will be accepted up to the number of spaces that are available for new students. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
English Proficiency: TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT); TOEFL Paper-based test - the minimum acceptable score is 550; IELTS - The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS Academic Test is 6.5.
