Delve into exploring America's obesity crisis, expand your knowledge of metabolic conditions, and examine how micronutrients affect our physiology and health.
As a Master's candidate in the Graduate Program in Nutritional Sciences (GPN), you'll engage in these areas and beyond while receiving specialized instruction in research methodologies, leadership development, teaching strategies, and community outreach across diverse academic environments.
Complete your M.S. degree while collaborating with our distinguished faculty and participate in extensive practical research opportunities, ranging from clinical and community-based studies to fundamental investigations of nutrient interactions at cellular and molecular levels regarding metabolic processes. Graduates will be equipped to continue their education through our Nutritional Sciences Ph.D. program or assume leadership, research, or teaching roles in various nutrition-related disciplines.
While the GPN emphasizes doctoral education and primarily seeks applicants aiming for a Ph.D., we do provide an M.S. degree option. Admission for Master's students is considered individually based on faculty research availability. We strongly advise contacting specific faculty members whose research aligns with your interests to explore potential opportunities before submitting your application.
College graduates with an undergraduate degree in nutrition, animal sciences, food science, dietetics, or a related biological or social science will be considered for admission.
The basic expectations for admission from undergraduate studies include: 6 credits in chemistry (organic and inorganic); 3 credits each in physiology, biochemistry, and nutrition; and physics, calculus, and analytical chemistry for some research areas in nutrition science, and social science for public health and community nutrition.
