Statistics Ph.D. students in our department can customize their studies to align with professional aspirations. The curriculum offers flexibility to focus on theoretical foundations, practical applications, or computational methods in statistics and data science. Students concentrating on statistical theory gain excellent preparation for academic research and teaching positions. Those focusing on applied or computational statistics develop skills ideal for government roles (like census methodology development) or industry positions involving advanced analytics, research initiatives, and experimental design.
Students with a 3.00 or better junior/senior average (on a 4.00 scale) and with appropriate course backgrounds will be considered for admission. The best-qualified applicants will be accepted up to the number of spaces that are available for new students. Exceptions to the minimum 3.00 grade-point average may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Students hoping to earn a Ph.D. in statistics may apply directly to the Ph.D. program without need for a master's degree.
