An art history graduate program equips students for diverse career paths including academic research, museum curation, cultural heritage advocacy, and arts administration, among other fields pursued by alumni. Both museum professionals and academic researchers benefit from comprehensive knowledge. Consequently, all graduate students must study visual arts and material culture across various historical periods and regions, with doctoral candidates developing specialized mastery in at least one art history discipline. The department boasts faculty experts covering African, Asian, European, and American art traditions.
Applicants to the Ph.D. program must have an M.A. in art history or a closely related field.
