The Art History Department provides a graduate curriculum delving into cultural, aesthetic, and theoretical aspects of visual arts. Small cohort sizes foster strong mentorship between faculty and students. A key program advantage lies in the diverse scholarly expertise of its professors. Specializations span: ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and American art/architecture; Medieval through Baroque European works; and modern/contemporary art across Europe, the U.S., and Africa. Collaborative ties with Classics, African-American Studies, African Studies, Women's Studies, Film Studies, History, and Comparative Literature enable interdisciplinary academic approaches. The curriculum balances comprehensive art historical training with focused specialization. Teaching experience is gained through the TATTO (Teaching Assistant Training and Teaching Opportunity) initiative. All admitted students receive five years of guaranteed funding covering tuition and living expenses (contingent on annual evaluations).
