The Community, Environment, and Development program integrates economics and sociology to equip students with the tools to tackle challenges in economic growth, community advancement, environmental conservation, and global development. This interdisciplinary approach highlights the connections between these areas at both local and international scales. The curriculum fosters analytical skills and fundamental competencies needed for careers addressing community-based concerns. Introductory (Level I) classes present essential economic and sociological principles, exploring their applications in development studies and environmental social sciences. Level II courses expand on these foundations by investigating the dynamic connections between ecological resources and socioeconomic progress. Students also develop practical skills through required coursework in research methodologies, data analysis, and communication techniques, including GIS applications, statistical methods, and survey research approaches.
