The Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications provides high-achieving students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a pathway to obtain both their B.A. and M.A. degrees within five years. This Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate Program in Media Studies fosters in-depth exploration of communication research and thesis work through a structured combination of undergraduate classes, graduate-level seminars, and guided research initiatives. By engaging students in graduate seminars, research projects, and scholarly discussions alongside master's and doctoral candidates, the program deepens their understanding of advanced academic work.
The B.A./M.A. in Media Studies is designed for students to rigorously examine media systems. Its goal is to equip participants with thorough knowledge of media structures, networks, cultural impacts, and information flows. Graduates emerge prepared for doctoral programs in communications or careers in business and government that demand expertise in media's historical, social, and political dimensions, along with research methodologies. Students learn to design research studies, assess findings critically, and apply research insights to shape media practices. This program focuses on academic rather than professional training.
