The forestry major aims to equip students with practical skills for assessing, maintaining, and conserving forest resources through hands-on training. Fieldwork conducted in the nearby Michaux State Forest complements classroom learning with real-world applications. The curriculum emphasizes developing strong written and verbal communication abilities across all coursework. Program alumni find employment with private sector organizations like forestry consultancies, timber companies, and wood processing plants, as well as public sector roles in government-run forest conservation and recreational initiatives. Other career paths include urban arboriculture services, paper production, land surveying, landscape design, utility providers, and various industries needing expertise in field data collection, evaluation, and reporting.
Many students apply their earned credits toward four-year degrees in fields like ecosystem conservation, wildlife biology, tourism management, sustainable materials, environmental studies, plant biology, general biology, or business administration.
