The Mathematics Department's Ph.D. program enables students to pursue focused academic exploration and original research across various mathematical disciplines. Our graduate faculty specialize in diverse fields such as mathematical analysis, applied mathematics, differential geometry, financial mathematics, actuarial science, mathematical biology, mathematics education, number theory, numerical analysis, probability theory, and topology. Admission to the Ph.D. program requires students to demonstrate mathematical competence through qualifying examinations and secure a faculty advisor from the mathematics department. Candidates beginning the program without an existing graduate degree generally complete their Ph.D. requirements within six years, while those entering with a master's degree typically finish in five years.
