Earning an Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer Degree prepares graduates to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in a related field at any California State University with just 60 additional upper-division units. Those who obtain this AS-T degree gain guaranteed entry to the CSU system, though specific campuses or programs aren't assured. A minimum 2.0 GPA in all transferable CSU courses is mandatory, though certain majors may demand higher standards - students should meet with an advisor for details. This program exposes learners to diverse biological concepts, from cellular and molecular biology to Earth's organism variety, while strengthening STEM competencies. Graduates develop scientific thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities applicable to real-world scenarios. Completing this AS-T in Biology ensures students are transfer-ready for CSU institutions and establishes the groundwork for bachelor's-level studies toward careers in research, industry, or education. The degree mandates two semesters each of biology, chemistry, and physics, plus one math semester. Though not required due to unit constraints, biology majors are strongly encouraged to complete extra math coursework and two organic chemistry semesters beyond the core requirements.
