Women's and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary academic discipline that explores gender roles through historical and modern lenses, focusing particularly on women's experiences and viewpoints. The program emphasizes how gender intersects with race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, physical ability, nationality, and other aspects of identity.
This department provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options. Additionally, students from any major can pursue a graduate certificate in Women's Studies. These qualifications open doors to diverse career paths including government work, legal professions, media, healthcare, business, social services, education, and more. The program also prepares students for advanced academic study at the graduate level.
High-achieving Women's Studies majors can participate in a linked undergraduate/graduate program with Humanities, applying up to 12 credit hours toward both degrees. This accelerated path requires completion of at least 150 total credits (120 for the bachelor's and 30 for the master's). Additional details can be found in the Humanities section of the Catalog.
