A physics degree with a professional focus allows students to develop a customized academic plan that blends rigorous physics training with substantial coursework in another discipline. Potential complementary fields range from chemistry and pre-medical studies to computer science, among others. Recognized by the University for national excellence, the program benefits from Old Dominion's strategic location (just 30 minutes away) near two world-class research centers: the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF), a global leader in nuclear physics, and NASA Langley Research Center. Over the last two decades, the Physics department has expanded significantly, doubling its faculty size while upgrading teaching spaces, lab facilities, and implementing cutting-edge computer-based undergraduate labs. The newly constructed Physical Sciences Research Building further enhances research possibilities for both graduate and undergraduate students.
