What emotions arise when a poem or lyric deeply touches you? How does a frightening story manipulate its structure and wording to build suspense? In the creative writing program, students won't simply read and write—they'll master the underlying mechanics of prose and poetry to recreate the impact of beloved literature. Throughout their studies, they'll analyze works by modern authors, explore genre histories and traditions, participate in literary events, and exchange their creative pieces with peers. This specialization provides focused training in writing as an artistic practice, covering poetry, fiction, and nonfiction through dedicated workshops. Participants will hone abilities in analytical reasoning, innovative solution-finding, detailed textual analysis, revision techniques, and structured critique.
