Global reliance on technological progress and sustainable resource management will demand more individuals capable of tackling increasingly intricate challenges in the years ahead. The Master of Science in horticulture program enables students to customize their professional trajectory by choosing from diverse specialization areas, guided by faculty experts in OSU's Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture
Program Structure
Students can earn their horticulture master's degree through either the horticultural science track or the horticultural practice track.
Horticultural Science Track
This path requires completing at least 30 credit hours, including
6 credits of HORT 5000, Thesis Research.
Genetic enhancement of plants begins with various manipulation techniques, followed by rigorous selection and assessment processes to guarantee exceptional plant quality. Some graduate students explore desirable plant traits for genetic refinement, while others analyze selection performance to maintain consistent excellence in future OSU-developed cultivars. For those drawn to our Controlled Environment Horticulture specialization, our program provides extensive opportunities in ornamental crop enhancement through conventional breeding or mutation techniques. Additionally, we offer participation in a comprehensive national turfgrass evaluation initiative for those seeking hands-on experience.
