The Boone Pickens School of Geology (BPSoG) Ph.D. program offers research opportunities across key geoscience disciplines including petroleum studies, hydrology, environmental and climate science, earth dynamics, and computational geology. This doctoral program aims to equip students for professional paths in academic institutions, industry sectors, or governmental organizations.
Program Requirements
Total of sixty credit hours (with 29-40 hours dedicated to dissertation work)
Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0
Up to eleven hours may be allocated to Advanced Studies in Geology (GEOL 5990)
Mandatory completion of Research Methods and Techniques in Geosciences (GEOL 5243)
Two credit hours of Geology Colloquium (GEOL 5300) required
Successful passing of preliminary examinations
Finalization of study plan, including establishment of research committee
