The Knowlton School's Master of Architecture program focuses on every dimension of architectural study, rooted in the perspective of architecture as a cultural endeavor. We honor architectural heritage through our emphasis on history and theory while pushing boundaries with technological innovation and global perspectives. Historical and theoretical seminars are complemented by instruction in building systems, sustainable design, structural engineering, and professional practice, supported by the school's advanced fabrication and digital resources. Crucially, cultural awareness and technical proficiency merge in our immersive studio environment where students tackle real-world design challenges. The program also facilitates internship placements and global study opportunities, with over 50% of students receiving financial assistance.
Knowlton's Master of Architecture follows a unified degree path with a three-year curriculum and dual entry options. Candidates without prior architecture degrees (and select continuing students) begin with foundational first-year studies that cultivate design sensibility across critical, technical, and aesthetic dimensions. Those holding NAAB-accredited undergraduate degrees may qualify for second-year advanced placement through academic evaluation and portfolio assessment. All students progress to a third year emphasizing specialized disciplinary research and advanced study.
A baccalaureate or professional degree (or equivalent foreign credential) from an accredited college or university, earned by the expected date of entry into your graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in all prior undergraduate and graduate work.
