Biostatistics serves as a core discipline within public health, connecting statistical data to real-world health challenges—particularly those impacting human communities. Biostatisticians play a vital role in shaping intervention strategies and informing public health policies and priorities. Our faculty consists of nationally recognized leaders in health metrics who work closely with researchers across The Ohio State University Health Sciences campus and beyond. Their current investigations span survival analysis, logistic regression, cancer statistics, genomics, proteomics, and environmental and occupational risk evaluation. These collaborations ensure rigorous study designs and accurate data interpretation. The Biostatistics PhD program requires a strong foundation in mathematics, including linear algebra and advanced calculus. This degree demands extensive coursework and research, preparing graduates to conduct independent work and advance the field. The curriculum focuses on developing expertise and research capabilities for original contributions. During their second year, PhD students selecting the Public Health specialization will be paired with Biostatistics faculty advisors.
