The Biostatistics Department's doctoral program mandates a minimum of 90 semester credits post-bachelor's degree. A minimum of 30 credits must focus on statistics or biostatistics at the master's level (such as a Master of Science in these fields).
Students are required to complete 54 credits in biostatistics/statistics coursework (with 30 typically transferred from an MS program), 6 public health credits, 3 consulting credits, 6 cognate credits, and 21 dissertation credits.
Program graduates will demonstrate competency in:
Developing original biostatistical methods through independent research.
Establishing productive partnerships with researchers in emerging quantitative disciplines.
Publishing methodological papers in peer-reviewed biostatistics journals.
Contributing to collaborative publications in subject-specific journals.
Securing academic, governmental, or private sector positions in research and teaching.
This education occurs within the collaborative public health environment of the College of Public Health and Health Professions and College of Medicine, preparing graduates to help alleviate the global biostatistics workforce shortage.

A recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.
In keeping with the university's goal to become a top 5 university and given our position as a Research 1 Institution, the college has set minimum quantitative standards we typically expect for admission consideration to our PhD programs. These include the following:
GRE (Verbal + Quantitative)>300
GRE Writing Score>3.0 with at least 150 GRE Verbal, or >3.5 if GRE Verbal <150
GPA >3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate credit (on a 4.0 grading scale)
Arrange to have official transcripts from each previous institution attended (other than University of Florida) sent to the Office of Graduate Admissions (address above.) Please aim to have these transcripts delivered by the application deadline. Uploading unofficial transcripts within the application system is also highly recommended. If you are unable to submit the official transcripts by the deadline, please be sure to upload or provide unofficial copies of previous transcripts via the online application portal so the departmental admissions committee has these for evaluation purposes. Failure to provide transcripts either official or unofficial will result in a delay in application review and could result in denial to the program due to an incomplete application.
