The German Literature and Critical Thought graduate program offers a structured approach for students to explore connections between contemporary German culture, literature, and various intellectual disciplines. These include philosophy, critical theory, literary analysis, aesthetics, cultural history, political thought, psychoanalysis, media studies, and other areas of theoretical inquiry.
Graduate students follow a curriculum that combines comprehensive understanding of philosophical and theoretical works with rigorous study of German literary traditions. The program's seminars cover diverse topics, from focused studies of particular authors and literary works to cutting-edge investigations of theoretical concepts and challenges. Each seminar is designed to equip students with the analytical tools needed to formulate sophisticated, original research projects, ultimately leading to groundbreaking dissertations that bridge literary scholarship and theoretical frameworks.
Admitted students must hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree or a comparable non-U.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Internet-Based Test Score minimum requirement of 90; Minimum for the Computer-Based Test is 213 and the Paper-Based Test is 550. The minimum score for the IELTS is 7.
