Northwestern University's Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science program focuses on training students to become skilled, autonomous researchers. Doctoral candidates pursue groundbreaking studies in both established and emerging areas of computer science. They collaborate with leading scholars to push boundaries across fundamental CS domains, ranging from Theoretical Foundations to Artificial Intelligence and Network Systems. Furthermore, PhD candidates can partner with interdisciplinary CS+X faculty who hold joint appointments in fields such as business, law, economics, journalism, and medicine alongside computer science.
A typical applicant is expected to have a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline from a recognized institution. Highly qualified candidates with other academic backgrounds may also be considered.
