The Marriage and Family Therapy (SMFT) specialization within the Applied Human Development and Family Sciences M.S. program trains students to become licensed relationship therapists. This rigorous 21-month (5 semester) curriculum combines academic study of systemic theories and therapeutic methods with practical clinical training. Students complete 500 hours of supervised therapy practice. The SMFT program holds accreditation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Marriage and Family Education (COAMFTE). This COAMFTE-accredited program focuses on applying systemic family therapy approaches to address relational challenges. Students develop clinical expertise through coursework and supervised practice with couples, families, and individuals, working under AAMFT-approved supervisors. The program equips graduates with skills to work in diverse settings including mental health clinics, hospitals, corporate environments, and social service agencies, blending theoretical knowledge with practical therapeutic techniques.
