The Master of Arts in English program caters to students passionate about literature, linguistics, composition, and teaching English to non-native speakers. This program offers six specialized concentrations, equipping students with advanced expertise in language studies, linguistics, communication, and writing while fostering a deeper appreciation of literary works. Track I mandates completion of at least 30 graduate-level credit hours within the English Department, laying the foundation for potential doctoral studies. Participants in this track must successfully complete a foreign language competency test. Acceptable languages for demonstrating proficiency include French, German, Greek (both classical and koine), Italian, Latin (classical or medieval), Russian, Spanish, or other languages approved by the graduate studies director when justified by academic requirements. With approval from both the graduate advisor and director of graduate studies, students may incorporate limited coursework from disciplines closely aligned with English studies.
