Students are required to select a focus area in either audiology or speech-language pathology. Following consultation with their advisor, learners can opt to pursue their degree with or without completing a thesis. Enrollment in practicum and internship courses is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress and obtaining approval from the school.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant whose native language is not English must present an IELTS score of 6.5 or alternatively, a TOEFL score of at least 80 on the TOELF ibt.The M.A. in Communicative Disorders with a specialization in audiology is available to Doctor of Audiology students in good standing who require a master's degree prior to their fourth year external placement. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 in Au.D. course work taken at NIU. Specialization in Speech-Language Pathology- A minimum 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) in all undergraduate work. Competitive scores on the GRE General Test. A minimum 2.75 overall GPA on a 4.00 system or a 3.20 GPA with 15 or more semester hours of graduate work at an accredited institution.
