The Master of Arts in Art program mandates at least 30 semester hours of graduate-level coursework. Applicants focusing on art history research or art history teaching must provide an academic writing sample. Those choosing the studio art concentration need to select a studio (ARTS) or design (ARTD) focus area and successfully complete a portfolio review within their first year or before finishing 15 graduate credit hours to continue in the MA program. The art history research track prepares students for doctoral studies and careers as professional art historians and educators. Meanwhile, the art history teaching specialization equips students for instructional roles at community colleges where a doctorate isn't typically required.
