The Women's and Gender Studies program is an interdisciplinary initiative that promotes gender-focused research and education. Graduate students can earn a certificate by completing coursework that explores gender through feminist theory, critical analysis, research methodologies, and academic scholarship, with this achievement noted on their academic records. As the Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality doesn't confer degrees, students must fulfill their graduate requirements through their primary departments. The certificate is open to all enrolled graduate students in good standing, including non-degree seeking students. Instruction comes from faculty across multiple departments who teach approved courses. Prospective candidates should consult with both their departmental advisor and the Women's and Gender Studies coordinator early in their studies. To qualify, students must complete 12 credit hours in approved courses, including two mandatory interdisciplinary core classes. The remaining 6 credits can be fulfilled through approved electives, special topics courses, or directed studies focused on gender, pending director approval. The program also offers internship opportunities that integrate professional development with gender studies training.
