The Center for Southeast Asian Studies provides a certificate program tailored for graduate students pursuing master's or doctoral degrees at NIU, as well as professionals seeking to enhance their expertise about the region (including educators, managers, government workers, and NGO staff). This credential can significantly boost career prospects in our interconnected world. Open to all NIU graduate students and student-at-large candidates in good standing, the program adopts a multidisciplinary framework, examining Southeast Asia through lenses like anthropology, linguistics, history, political science, and the arts. Participants must demonstrate proficiency in a Southeast Asian language (comparable to completing 10 credit hours of study), though native speakers and those passing proficiency exams may be exempt.
