This graduate certificate aims to deepen students' knowledge of modern topics in language and literacy studies. The program benefits those pursuing careers in research, academia, or professional practice by offering cross-disciplinary coursework from the Colleges of Education, Health and Human Sciences, and Liberal Arts and Sciences. Certificate recipients will acquire both theoretical frameworks and research methodologies to design and analyze language and literacy studies effectively. Participants will build comprehensive, interdisciplinary expertise in language and literacy concepts, preparing them for innovative research and real-world implementation in educational and community environments.
The Interdisciplinary Study of Language and Literacy Graduate Certificate welcomes all NIU-enrolled students. Participants must sustain satisfactory academic progress, earn at least a B in all certificate courses, and finish requirements within six years. All coursework must be completed at NIU, with potential prerequisite courses outside the certificate curriculum. Early completion of core courses is strongly recommended. Prospective certificate students should consult with the program coordinator during initial program planning to optimize course scheduling and academic preparation.
