The School of Languages and Cultures provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, specializing in French, German, and Spanish literature. Students can also pursue an M.A. in Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy with a focus on Japanese. Furthermore, the school collaborates with the Comparative Literature Program to offer coursework for both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
Graduate studies in applied linguistics and linguistics are offered through the School of Interdisciplinary Studies under the College of Liberal Arts.
To earn an M.A., students must complete at least 30 graduate-level credit hours (or 24 hours if opting for the thesis track). Ph.D. candidates need 60 credit hours beyond their bachelor's degree, plus a dissertation (equivalent to 30 research credit hours). Full-time students typically finish the M.A. program in four semesters. Throughout their studies, graduate students gain valuable teaching experience at the college level. With an excellent faculty-to-student ratio, the program ensures personalized academic advising and maintains small class sizes for seminars and graduate courses.
