The Department of Mathematical Sciences provides outstanding students the chance to graduate with honors across any of its six specialization areas. Students majoring in mathematical sciences can apply for honors degree candidacy after their sophomore year if they maintain a minimum 3.00 overall GPA and a 3.50 GPA in all completed math courses, specifically MATH 232 and MATH 240. Qualified students interested in pursuing honors should visit the Department of Mathematical Sciences office (or the Statistics Division office for probability/statistics or actuarial science concentrators) to complete a candidacy application and receive an honors advisor. Exceptionally talented students may also qualify for honors candidacy after their sophomore year with departmental approval.
