While pursuing your electrical engineering degree, you will build a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering principles, enabling you to ethically and effectively apply modern knowledge and tools in the field. You will enhance your problem-solving abilities to design and construct systems and improve your communication skills with colleagues and those outside the profession. Electrical engineering as a career involves collaborating with experts in related disciplines to reach shared objectives. Design is a core component of the profession and is woven into your coursework. You will be motivated to consider logistical, ethical, and social factors when addressing key technical challenges. As an electrical engineering major, you can select from two specializations: Emphasis 1: Electrical and computer engineering This path offers a robust grounding in essential electrical engineering areas, with opportunities to focus on a specific field. Specializing in computer engineering includes extra training in software design and hardware/software integration. Emphasis 2: Biomedical engineering Given that biomedical engineers collaborate with healthcare providers to enhance patient care and quality of life, this emphasis requires additional coursework in chemistry and biology. It includes two tracks: Biomedical engineering and a pre-professional program (pre-medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry).
