The Department of World Languages and Cultures provides Bachelor of Arts degrees with specializations in French and Francophone studies, German studies, and Spanish Hispanic studies. Teacher certification (K-12) is also available for these languages. Being bilingual brings numerous advantages, particularly as employers increasingly seek multilingual professionals. A 2015 survey revealed that 50% of northern Illinois companies intend to recruit more bilingual or multilingual graduates in the near future. Alumni pursue careers across diverse sectors including business, translation, legal services, teaching, public safety, and more. The department also offers minors in the aforementioned languages, along with Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Russian.
