Explore the significance and historical context of racial and ethnic social constructs with this graduate certificate in Ethnic Studies. You'll investigate how historical events have shaped racial and ethnic hierarchies both in the U.S. and internationally, delving into enduring consequences of conflict, slavery, oppression, economic upheaval, famine, and genocide while cultivating critical self-awareness and interdisciplinary competencies to thrive in diverse communities. The program's curriculum offers an in-depth analysis of how race and ethnicity function as social constructs. By studying historical influences on racial and ethnic stratification across nations and the worldwide dispersion of ethnic groups through diaspora-causing events like warfare, bondage, discrimination, financial instability, hunger, or systematic eradication, students gain substantial knowledge for professional growth or further academic pursuits in this field.
