This program equips students to become versatile professionals with comprehensive expertise in both counseling psychology and school psychology. Through a scientist-practitioner framework, participants receive rigorous training that blends psychological theory, research, and practical application. The integrated curriculum fosters the holistic growth of individuals, families, groups, and social systems by employing evidence-based, culturally aware methods. These include assessment, diagnosis, collaborative care, short-term interventions, preventive strategies, consultation, outcome analysis, career guidance, and ethical practice across diverse environments such as educational institutions, healthcare systems, community mental health centers, correctional facilities, and private practice. Our philosophy centers on a scientist-practitioner approach that involves thorough behavioral analysis, implementation of best practices, and systematic evaluation of intervention outcomes.

The curriculum structure prioritizes foundational training as counseling/school psychologists by focusing on:

synthesizing health service psychology theory, research, and clinical application
ethical practice and adherence to professional standards
developing multicultural competence, especially for serving rural Southwestern U.S. populations (including Native American and Latino communities)
implementing health service psychology principles in training, supervision, and consultation scenarios
