The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering is granted to candidates who exhibit exceptional academic performance and research proficiency in mechanical engineering disciplines. To obtain a PhD, candidates must finish a demanding curriculum of advanced courses and successfully present and defend an original research dissertation. The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) requires all doctoral graduates to demonstrate profound expertise and innovative research in their specialized area. The MIE department accepts PhD applicants either immediately after completing an appropriate bachelor's degree (direct entry) or following a relevant master's degree (advanced entry).
