The Mechanical Engineering PhD program equips students for specialized study and research focused on either Mechanical Systems or Thermofluids.
Designed for candidates holding either a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related fields, the Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering enables profound academic exploration with a research concentration in Mechanical Systems or Thermofluids.
This doctoral program mandates at least 72 credit hours post-bachelor's degree, including a minimum of 15 dissertation credits. Students may incorporate up to 12 combined credits from directed research (XXX 6918), doctoral research (XXX 7919), or independent study (6908), subject to Program of Study approval. The curriculum requires 39 formal coursework hours, excluding directed research, doctoral research, and independent study. Remaining credits are selected by the student in coordination with their advisor and dissertation committee, pending approval from the graduate program coordinator.
