Our program emphasizes combining core mechanical engineering principles with innovative thinking, social responsibility, and leadership development to shape problem-solvers who address society's most pressing challenges.
We foster a research-driven atmosphere, exploring diverse areas from data analytics applications to rotating machinery behavior, 3D printing, nanoscale technologies, robotic systems, energy conversion processes, and thermal management. Notable breakthroughs include a compact diagnostic tool for sickle cell detection in underserved areas, and a bio-inspired robot merging 3D-printed components with marine organism tissues to create hybrid machines with enhanced mobility.
Our vibrant, inclusive department encourages teamwork among professors, students, and support staff, offering a nurturing community for academic and investigative endeavors. The five-year Mechanical Engineering PhD curriculum provides intensive specialization opportunities in areas including motion systems, automation, production technologies, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or structural mechanics.
