The Graduate School of Engineering provides a PhD program in Interdisciplinary Engineering that requires significant engagement across multiple academic departments or fields. Prospective students must include a comprehensive research proposal outlining their intended areas of study when applying. This interdisciplinary approach necessitates endorsement from a sponsoring Doctoral department and approval from the relevant graduate committees representing the disciplines involved in the applicant's plan.
The proposed Doctor of Philosophy program:
Empowers students and their Dissertation Committee to craft customized interdisciplinary curricula tailored to their research objectives and professional aspirations.
Facilitates collaborative research across partner institutions and the Global University System through a unified Ph.D. qualification recognized at regional campuses, eliminating the requirement for individual program approvals at each network location before research initiatives begin.
Enables faculty from Northeastern's partner universities to participate as instructors and committee members for dissertation projects.
Permits collaborative or combined degree arrangements with other higher education institutions, contingent upon established university-level partnership agreements.
