This interdisciplinary program cultivates a historically grounded perspective on global events and international policy developments from the early 1900s onward. It explores multifaceted theories about international relations, government-citizen dynamics, democratic evolution, concepts of citizenship and rights, causes and consequences of warfare, roots of racial/ethnic tensions and harmony, and economic disparities. The curriculum underscores how worldwide concerns intersect with local customs, equipping students to engage thoughtfully with these interactions through political, cultural, historical, and linguistic lenses. Northeastern's History program focuses on both regional narratives and worldwide connections between nations and cultures. Studying history isn't just about examining the past—it's about shaping tomorrow. In our interconnected world, historical knowledge provides essential context for modern challenges like democratic sustainability, civil rights, warfare, racial justice, and economic inequality. Simultaneously, history education develops vital competencies in critical analysis, investigative methods, written and verbal communication, and digital presentation techniques.
