English majors examine the rich historical, cultural, and artistic backgrounds of English, American, and global English-language literatures. They investigate writing techniques and associated media across centuries, from medieval manuscripts to digital formats. Students employ multiple theoretical and analytical frameworks to examine language, rhetoric, composition, and literary works. Our English Department investigates how creative writing and persuasive communication both influence and reflect their historical contexts. Through literature, linguistics, and rhetoric, we gain valuable insights into the concepts and values that shape society, including evolving perspectives on art, identity, social structures, colonialism, wellness, and ecology expressed through diverse media forms.
