The English major delivers a versatile, interdisciplinary curriculum that equips students for diverse career opportunities in fields such as business, law, government, healthcare, education, and media. Through this program, students develop essential skills in clear writing, persuasive communication, and critical reading—attributes vital for leadership positions across various industries.
The English Department's undergraduate program offers substantial flexibility. Students begin by selecting one course from each of three foundational areas (totaling nine credits): Literary History, Textual Analysis and Production, and Cultural Diversity. They then work closely with an academic advisor to choose eight additional courses (24 credits) from the department's extensive offerings. The program culminates in a senior-year capstone experience, which may involve an internship, portfolio, symposium, independent study, thesis project, or student teaching for those pursuing English Education.
