A dual major in Africana studies and human services enables students to blend their exploration of the cultural, political, socioeconomic, and historical aspects of global African Diaspora communities with professional training for social impact careers. This program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for research and professional practice. The curriculum features challenging coursework aligned with the discipline, complemented by hands-on learning experiences. Students develop expertise through classroom instruction, service-learning projects, cooperative education, and internships, gaining competencies in areas like critical race theory, historical interpretation, counseling techniques, nonprofit leadership, policy advocacy, and community development strategies.
