Africana studies is a multidisciplinary academic discipline focused on analyzing the cultural, political, social, economic, and historical aspects of African Diaspora communities worldwide. Learners can specialize in African American, African, or broader Africana studies. The Department of Cultures, Societies, and Global Studies serves as a vibrant academic hub for cross-disciplinary exploration and education regarding culture's role in driving social transformation and progress. We address global issues primarily through lenses shaped by the experiences of Global South populations (encompassing Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America) and their diasporic communities. In our pursuit of sustainable development solutions, we seek to reconsider and draw insights from the historical contexts, value systems, intellectual heritage, and contemporary challenges affecting most of the world's inhabitants. This necessitates critically reassessing enduring Eurocentric frameworks originally designed to justify colonial and nationalist ideologies with their complex constructions of difference. Consequently, we embrace the most comprehensive interpretations of languages and cultures as we work to comprehend, influence, and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world marked by growing social networks, economic interdependence, knowledge sharing, and cultural blending.
