This program fulfills the requirements for an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree with a focus on 3D arts, specifically Sculpture or Ceramics. By completing this pathway, students develop a robust 3D art portfolio while preparing for advanced visual arts education, including Bachelor of Arts (BA) programs with Studio Art or Art History concentrations, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees in Visual Arts, or entering the creative industry with a compelling portfolio.
North Seattle College features three specialized studio classrooms for ceramics and sculpture. The Ceramics curriculum teaches hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques for both functional and conceptual pieces. The facility offers spacious work tables, 21 electric pottery wheels, a slab roller, extruder, four electric kilns, a clay recycling pug mill, and a glazing studio stocked with standard studio glazes. The Sculpture program covers diverse techniques such as woodworking, mold-making, slip casting, carving, as well as accessible methods like cardboard construction, found object assembly, papier-mâché, and installation art.
