Anya Kivarkis, Head of the Jewelry and Metalsmithing program, exhibits her work nationally and internationally while pioneering fresh approaches for the department. Professor Kate Wagle specializes in adornment and sculpture, with her creations frequently showcased and featured in publications. Recent guest faculty members have included Tracy Steepy, Sherry Simms, and Bettina Dittlman.
Our art program features a cutting-edge curriculum that mirrors current artistic trends. Both students and instructors creatively blend traditional and modern techniques to address thought-provoking themes. The department encourages wide-ranging interdisciplinary exploration while maintaining focused expertise within specific mediums. Course offerings span diverse artistic disciplines such as ceramics, digital arts, drawing, textiles, jewelry and metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Students explore varied approaches including video art, installations, letterpress, performance, experimental materials, and new technologies. The program emphasizes the vital relationship between creative production and intellectual inquiry, combining hands-on skills with theoretical knowledge.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration requires four years of undergraduate study in Eugene. This studio-focused degree equips graduates for professional careers or advanced academic pursuits in the arts.
