The Department of Theatre Arts upholds exceptional standards in both academic studies and performance/technical theater training. It focuses on nurturing student creativity across all theatrical disciplines—including design, acting, directing, and production management—while encouraging deeper self-awareness and understanding of the world. For over a century, NDSU's theatre program has played a significant role in both academic offerings and student life, holding accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
Students can choose from three undergraduate theatre degree options, each customizable to align with personal career aspirations.
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theatre Arts follows a classic liberal arts framework, mandating coursework in technical theater, performance, directing, dramatic literature, theater history, and modern languages. This program also requires intermediate-level foreign language proficiency.
Alternatively, the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree allows students to complement their theater studies with a minor in an approved discipline.
