The department's dynamic production initiative fosters collaborative endeavors among students, faculty, staff, and visiting artists. Our primary venue is the Diamond Theater, a 300-seat thrust stage located within the Zoellner Arts Center. This space primarily showcases student performers under the guidance of faculty or guest directors, though exceptional students may occasionally direct or design productions. We frequently host professional performers and troupes alongside our in-house productions. For experimental work, we maintain the Zoellner's Black Box Theater as a creative laboratory. What distinguishes our program is the abundance of practical opportunities and the strong mentor-student bonds formed. We maintain a unique partnership with Touchstone Theatre, Bethlehem's professional theater company. The Department of Theatre grants Bachelor of Arts degrees, encouraging students to explore diverse academic disciplines alongside their major - many pursue double majors. Graduates have progressed to prestigious graduate programs or entered various fields including business, social services, and law, where theatrical training proves valuable for public presentation and problem-solving. The analytical and interpersonal skills developed through theater studies translate to numerous professions, while the artistic appreciation cultivated lasts a lifetime. Our vibrant production program continues to facilitate collaborations between students, faculty, staff, and guest artists. The Diamond Theater remains our flagship performance space, where student actors typically perform under professional direction, with occasional student-led projects. We complement our productions by welcoming external professional performers and utilize the Black Box Theater for experimental work. The program's hallmark remains its hands-on learning approach and close faculty-student relationships, alongside our special affiliation with Touchstone Theatre.
