The Department of Apparel, Design, and Hospitality Management provides an accredited bachelor's program in interior design. During the initial two years, students learn design basics, visual and technical communication methods (such as drafting, perspective sketching, model construction, and rendering), along with theoretical and practical concepts (including human measurements, ergonomics, universal design, interior technology, and color principles). Students quickly realize the multifaceted nature of interior design, where teamwork with industry professionals and related fields for creative problem-solving becomes standard practice. Advanced coursework centers on interconnected studio projects complemented by studies in design history, research-based design, interior materials, business practices, digital design tools, and building systems. The program concludes with a capstone senior project. Through these studio courses, students engage with diverse projects of varying complexity and distinct client objectives.
