The MSIE program offers in-depth exploration within a chosen specialization, culminating in a research thesis. This degree equips you for research careers in consulting firms, industry, or government agencies. As a research-focused program, it provides a pathway to our Ph.D. program and gives you preferential consideration for assistantship opportunities.

Faculty members in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering specialize in four key research domains:

manufacturing systems (covering production processes, medical device manufacturing, CAM, CIM, robotics, automation, rapid prototyping, and concurrent engineering),
production systems (including logistics, supply chain management, scheduling, inventory control, materials handling, facility design, furniture manufacturing, quality assurance, and engineering economics),
systems analysis and optimization (encompassing healthcare systems, stochastic processes, simulation techniques, mathematical programming, and soft computing), and
ergonomics (focusing on human performance, workplace safety, and biomechanics). The department also supports specialized graduate programs in operations research, integrated manufacturing systems engineering, textile technology management, and financial mathematics.
